We moved from Normandy Farms in Foxboro to West Thompson Lake Army Corps Park near Thompson, CT on 7/12, about 2 hours west and away from expensive campsites and traffic. It is a pretty park with only 12 sites with electricity & water. Some peace & quiet for us to get ready for a week in New York City, which is next on our agenda. We will be here 4 nights and move to NYC on Wednesday. We found out there was boat races on the lake we are camped on...we could hear them from inside the camper...hydroplanes. But we had promised ourselves some down time, so we did just that. We grilled a steak & a piece of Halibut from Alaska and had a nice dinner and went to bed pretty early. It was a nice relaxing day.
Yesterday, we left at 10 am and drove to Quonset Point, RI (about 50 mins) and took a ferry to Martha's Vineyard (about 90 mins), landing at Oak Bluffs. Then we took a bus ride that passed through all 6 towns on Martha's Vineyard (about 3 hours). The driver thought he was auditioning for the Richard Petty Driving Experience...Barb & I just sat near the back of the bus & laughed...it was pretty funny. But we did see the whole Island in 3 hours, although not nearly as thoroughly as we saw Boston. We stopped at the Gay Head Cliffs on the west end of the island for about 30 minutes and walked out and took some pictures and then got back on our thrill ride bus...fun afternoon.
When we got back to Oak Bluffs, we walked along the waterfront and stopped and had a sandwich and a couple of beers at Sand Bar & Grill. Then it was back to the boat for the ride back to Rhode Island. The 90 min. boat ride back was at sunset, but clouds made it not too nice, so we just relaxed. Then it was the 50 min ride back to the camper. We arrived back about 1045 and the gate to the campground was locked, so we had to walk about a 1/4 mile to the camper, in the dark. Glad we had a flashlight. Today has been just relaxing, catching up on this blog and cleaning the camper. Barb made us French toast & bacon for breakfast...bbq chicken for dinner. Leftovers for NYC.
We have a busy time coming up, so stay tuned. New York & NJ will be full of activity...stay tuned.
