7/4/2015

On June 29, we arrived at Winhall Brook Army Corps of Engineers Park in Jamaica, Vt.  It was not without a pretty tough u-turn we had to make on a dead end road.  Motor homes are not meant to turn around on a 2 lane dirt road but I got it turned around any way...not a good way to end a trip.  Then we got settled in only to learn we would have no TV, cell service or internet.  But the park was pretty empty and out spot was across the street from a rushing river...pretty as they come.  So we set up camp and then figured out there was a weak Wi-Fi next to the office about 1/2 mile away, so we will make it work.  I am a little nervous when there is no way to call 911 if needed, so we contemplate moving closer to Boston where we can have a few more creature comforts.  We drove to what looked like the best place 50 miles away and checked it out and made a decision to move on Friday.  So we spent a day sightseeing in Vermont and made our move.  We are now in Bernardston, MA.

On July 2 we drove to Manchester, VT and paid to ride up Equinox Mountain, a 5 1/2 mile toll road to the summit.  It is finally a pretty day, so it was quite enjoyable.  It has been pretty wet since our arrival, so a sunny day was welcome.  From there, we drove back into Manchester and toured Robert Lincoln's (Abe & Mary Lincoln's only son to survive to adulthood) summer home on over 400 acres of beautiful Vermont countryside...here is a link to the place http://www.hildene.org  The place wasn't crowded, so we took the tours and enjoyed the visit...fun to tour 110 year old historic homes.

Then it was back to the camper to watch the folks getting ready to spend the long holiday weekend going back to nature...we got surrounded by 3 families, so our decision to move proved prophetical.

So we are here for a 4 night stay and we are using it to catch up on this blog, some reading & the laundry.  We have been on the road for 17 nights tonight and we are doing OK, but it is nice to relax a bit too.  We are going to do some exploring tomorrow and check out the area,  Boston is next on Tuesday morning.  We are going to catch up on a couple of things we missed in 2013, stay tuned.
