The snow is melting and the weather has become clear. We are going to drive to Helena to visit with my cousins and visit their town. On the way, we are going to take the scenic route through Anaconda, Phillipsburg and Drummond, and a few more small towns on the route. The day is beautiful and the scenery is spectacular. Every road has a story out here and most of them are quite interesting. From the days of Lewis & Clark until now, little has changed in most places. It is a fun place to visit. We stopped in Phillipsburg for lunch and found 'the best BBQ in Montana'...it was mighty good. We continued on our way and after going over McDonald Pass (Elev. 6362) just outside of Helena, we arrived at my cousins. After visiting for a while we went to dinner with the rest of the family at what was an old brothel called 'Big Dorothy's' and now called the Windbag Saloon & Grill---great food and fun company.
We drove the city with my cousin as our tour guide after dinner, visiting the Montana capitol and the rest of the downtown area. We also stopped at Andrea's new home on the edge of Helena...what a cool location. Mountains all around and plenty of space for her 5 horses.
We spent the night in Helena, went to breakfast in the morning and did some more site-seeing before heading south. Nice visit. Wish we could see them more often, but Helena & Christmas are a long way apart.
We also found out last night that my sister Peggy, who we visited in PA the middle of April, is not doing very well. She is in critical care at a Pittsburg Hospital. Her heart is not delivering enough oxygen to her organs and the organs are beginning to fail. We are very sad about this and will likely be traveling back to PA soon.
