5/19/14

Yesterday morning was catch up time and then we went exploring in the afternoon.  Just west of Polson we found a cool location where the Flathead River flows out of the Lake.  The Kerr Dam artificially maintains the level of Flathead Lake and produces enough electricity to supply 126000 houses with power.  The Dam was built in 1939 and has been in service since.  We walked down from the overlook parking lot, which was pretty easy.  The walk back was the tough part...360 steps up to the parking area and with the elevation here, that became a chore.  But we made it with a couple of stops...we aren't kids anymore.  Reminded me of the time my brother & I walked up the Washington Monument in DC...897 steps up, then we walked back down too...we were still kids (1962), but that was a challenge too.  Glad the Monument is back open so today's kids can experience that challenge.  We circled through Polson on the way back and it being Sunday, it was pretty deserted.  Quiet little lakefront town that is ready for the summer crowds, Memorial Day is not far off.  Bet it won't be that calm again until after Labor Day.

Today it is raining off and on so we decided to just hang out at the camper.  We are planning to do a lot of driving starting tomorrow, so just hanging out is sort of nice.  Barb made a great breakfast...nap time?

We took the 1st 3 pictures from that little shed on top of the hill
