8/3/2014

Moving day again, time for a ride in the country.  We are off to Teslin, YT, another border crossing and another time change, back to Pacific time.  Alaska has been a wonderful place to spend almost 4 weeks. The weather has been superb compared to what we expected, the scenery out of this world, and the wildlife viewing has been a once in a lifetime experience.  But it is time to move on.  We will be in Yukon & British Columbia for the next 9 days, then back in the USA.

Our first task is the hill out of Skagway, a 12 mile pull from sea level to 3292', and some very pretty viewing along the way.  Then it is our last venture into Canada and the Mounties and their questions...still don't understand why they asked us if we had guns at home...like that is their business.  Oh well, onward.

After clearing customs, the scenery sort of gets bland for a time...but the Yukon folks keep it interesting with a little bridge they want $18 to walk across.  We took a picture over the fence and moved on.  Then there was a lake we drove along for probably 40 minutes...huge lake. We made it to Teslin about 330, unhooked the car, and go to a local museum about a local who took hundreds of photos in the early 1900's and had the first car up here, before there were any roads to drive on...he mostly drove on the frozen Lake Teslin.

We came back to the campground, did a little housecleaning and then went to the driver's meeting for tomorrow's drive.  It is only 4 hours and then we are having a talent show by members of our group.  It probably will be somewhere less than 'USA has Talent', but it should be fun.  One guy claims to be able to play a Ukulele with his nose...whatever.

So we are on our way to Washington, stay tuned.  After today, all new roads and new places to see.

Our last morning in Alaska

$18 to walk across this bridge...yea right.

We drove along this lake for about 40 mins.

Our location in Teslin...pretty spot
