6/25/14

We got an early start, 730 departure for the drive to Dawson Creek, BC, which is a 332 mile run.  We basically drove straight thru on this jaunt.  The ride was very pretty, but not too many special things to see along the way.  We arrived in Dawson City, filled up with diesel and went to the park.  On the way, a warning light came on indicating an issue with the ABS (Antilock Braking System).  Bad place to have a problem with that complicated of a system.  We went to 4 places, no one had the expertise to even look at it, and so we will be monitoring that very closely.  Hopefully, in Fairbanks we will have better luck.  For dinner, we had a catered dinner and then a gal from the local visitor’s bureau gave us some history of the World Famous Alaska Highway, which we are going to drive from beginning to end.  After dinner, we sat around a campfire & told stories.   Interesting little town in an interesting place…The beginning (or end) of the Alaska Highway keeps it afloat.  It wasn’t much before Japan attacked Pearl Harbor, but that is what created the Alaska Highway.
