A bus picked us up and drove us a few miles to the local Iditarod Training facility for a tour in the rain. Upon arrival, we get a dissertation on how they train the dogs for the extreme conditions they encounter during the 8 day race. 14000 calories a day to build strength & stamina, and they work them hard enough they stay lean & strong. It is pretty impressive and the dogs seem well cared for. They introduce us to some puppies that were very cute and then pile 8 of us on a wheeled wagon and give us a ride with 12 dogs towing the wagon. About a mile is how long the demonstration lasts. We pile back on the bus and are delivered to our campground.. We relaxed for the afternoon and Barb did some laundry.
About 430, another bus picked us all up and delivered us downtown for a dinner cruise on Resurrection Bay. We cruise to Fox Island and have a nice dinner, prime rib, salmon & king crab with the fixings. We load back up on the boat and cruise back to Seward. Along the way, we see whales, sea lions, 1000s of birds, and several eagles & otters, even a Beluga Whale. The scenery in this place is just plain stunning!!
Back to the campground and some chatting with the folks who are still up. A lot of the group are early to bed folks. But we are making friends and it is fun to share experiences & stories...everyone has tales.
