7/24/2014

Bus picked us up at 8 am for a ride to the Discovery III paddle boat and to ride the Chenna River through western Fairbanks.  It took us past some nice houses and the training facility of Susan Kutcher (4 time Iditirod champ) and they did a play act for the tourists.  We also stopped at a tourist area in the rain and heard all about antlers & hides of all the wild animals in the area.  Then it was back to the drop off and another bus ride to Pike's Landing for lunch.  Pike's Landing is where the Iron Dog snowmobile race starts & stops every winter...a 2000 mile race through the wilderness...tough guys.  Lunch was pretty good, prime rib & cod.

Then we piled back on the bus for a ride to the Ice Museum in downtown...a lot of sculptured ice.  They showed us a film and then let us play around in the sculptures...everyone had fun.  The rooms were 20 degrees or so, so we are glad we dressed enough.  One of the artists then sculpted a bird.

Then it was back to the campground, still in the rain.  We made final arrangements for our flight to Coldfoot tomorrow evening...hope it quits raining by then.  I worked on this blog, changed the air filter on the motor home & fixed a drawer glide in the kitchen...projects, projects.  Actually, they have been few compared to some of the other guys.  One guy had to take his Jeep to a dealer for some repairs, another broke his tow bar pulling in yesterday, and a 3rd had another problem.  The guy who broke his tow bar is the same guy who hit the moose...not having a very good week.

So we are off to the Arctic circle tomorrow...hope for good weather.
